Artists Bio:

Koco Collab is the coalescence of artists Aiko Szymczak and Corinne “Bee Bop” Trujillo. In our practice, we are continuously unraveling our lineages and exploring the depths of our past; our pieces and products are a manifestation of this odyssey. As women and people of color coming from diverse backgrounds, it has become essential in our practice to disentangle and weave new stories. The tales of being a mixed woman in a world where opportunities and freedoms are being won everyday. We accomplish this through using ethnically ambiguous portraiture juxtaposed with vibrant environments and incorporating cross-cultural symbols and archetypes.

Theme description:

Our concept involves the unseen elements that make up our experience and connectivity of these forces; “As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul…” Our work focuses on the ebb and flow of the currents of life and the ways in which we interact with them. We often juxtapose stoic figures with chaotic elements and vivid colors surrounding them. This explores the relationship between what we express outwardly and what we are experiencing internally. In this particular concept we are submitting, there is a woman in a moment of protection as the world around begins to envelope her and that which makes her resilient is made up of the same force in which she stands against. A paradox of the struggles we endure.
