Charly Malpass

Truckee, CA

Artists Bio:

Charly’s process begins by writing a poem then allowing her words to come to life through each painting. She enjoys recreating the raw beauty of nature and her ever-changing environment. Her realistic paintings take the viewer through an emotional journey based on personal visions and dream states. Charly considers light glimmering on the water or a simple moonrise to be a part of a story; part of her visual vocabulary. Charly is currently collaborating with Encore Paint, a California based recycling company that turns discarded paint into new, usable paint for artists. Since she works with repurposed materials, sustainability has been a major theme in her recent projects, especially her murals.

Theme description:

My inspiration came from a poem I read recently by Nayyirah Washeed. She wrote, “Can we speak in flowers? It will be easier for me to understand.”

Painting murals allows me to use imagery to make a case to a broader, more diverse audience, that art not only matters, it is indispensable to create a better world. Art is a story of both intimacy and confrontation. More than ever, I feel the need to explore dynamic new ways to help us experience the beauty of the natural world, the environmental challenges we face, and the opportunities for recovery and redemption.
